Study from Heritage shows government freebies make working impractical

Almost every policy President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats push is centered around redistribution of wealth.

A study from Heritage shows just how successful the Left has been in shifting wealth from one sector to another, but the top sector isn't the only one targeted.

Coburn shows Congress still spending on unconstitutional projects

If you abandon the US Constitution completely when it comes to the branches of our government, you abandon freedom and security. You also abandon your money. President Barack Obama routinely ignores the tenets of that legal and binding document and so does Congress.

Dr. Tom Coburn, senator from Oklahoma, prepared a report that reflects more than $6.5 billion taxpayer dollars spent on what he called “100 of the countless unnecessary, duplicative and low priority projects spread throughout the federal government.”

Coburn details each project in Wastebook, 2011.

Among them are:

Bridge photo-op: Obama should ask why Kentucky built a cooking center instead of a bridge

President Barack President Barack Obama travels for a photo-op at the Ohio River where he will talk about a bridge that could have been restored with Stimulus 1. (TV screen shot/The US Report)Obama is traveling to the Ohio River over concerns about a couple of bridges. Translation: taxpayers are funding a photo-op for a president trying to recover his momentum.

One bridge, the Sherman Minton Bridge, connects Louisville to Indiana. Before Obama gets down to the nitty gritty to pitch his jobs plan, the president will meet with Gov. Steve Beshear (D-Ky.) who is also up for re-election in November.

Obama is pushing what many are calling Stim 2. Our president is allegedly concerned about infrastructure. Again.

Fact is Kentucky got a nice pot from Stim 1. Remember our president laughing with fellow progressives about projects not being quite as “shovel ready” as he thought?

Vitter wants answers on Brazil drilling loan; Paul wanted answers too

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) said President Barack Obama's support for Petrobras oil drilling is "ridiculous."Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) wants answers from the US taxpayer supported Export-Import bank about a $2 billion loan to Brazil for offshore drilling. Vitter’s home state is suffering under a moratorium imposed by President Barack Obama. Vitter said Louisianians “are frustrated” and he wants to know “why permitting domestically is nearly stalled…”

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) had questions about ExIM—nine years ago when he asked Congress to reject the reauthorization of ExIm for “economic, constitutional and moral reasons.”

Somebody tell Larry Summers: it’s the tax refunds, stupid

IRS has a special website to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit. EITC is a credit for people who do not earn high incomes. EITC can reduce your taxes, and result in a refund. In simple terms, workers keep more of what they earn.Larry Summers, the Obama administration’s director of the National Economic Council, addressed a forum Mar. 13 and he said consumer spending in the U.S. appears to have stabilized. It would be a good thing if the administration’s economic whizzes stabilized. Summers’ remarks indicate a complete disconnect with real people. Here’s why. It’s mid-March, right? And if you’re in a lucky tax bracket, what do you do? You file your tax return early because you will probably get a refund if you’ve withheld more than you owe. I hate that word ‘refund,’ by the way. They should call it a tax overpayment. Somebody should tell Summers, “It’s the tax refunds, stupid.” Take a look at what IRS said today.

Congressman Gohmert urges convert rest of bailout into tax holiday for Main Street

Clint was honored during National Police Week. [Photo by SPA D.B. Wagner, Customs and Border Protection; Rep. Gohmert website.](Washington, D. C.)--U.S. Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) has a capital idea just in time for Christmas—use the last $350 billion earmarked for the bailout to benefit U.S. taxpayers. Gohmert wants to to put that money towards a tax holiday from both personal income tax and FICA tax for Americans during January and February, 2009. Gohmert’s next statement may garner a number of fans. He stated, "By instating a temporary tax holiday, we could electrify the American economy and provide overwhelming relief to taxpayers, all for less than the cost of the current failed Paulson-Pelosi bailout system. [W]e need to give this money to the people who earned it. I am sick of Washington millionaires trying to decide which of their cronies should get the next wad of taxpayer money…” And that’s not all. Gohmert recently proposed returning all 2008 income taxes to American taxpayers as a solution to boost the ailing economy. He said he believes taxpayers, rather than the government, should be using their hard-earned money to choose the economy's winners and losers.

Relief: McCain suspends campaign, heads to Washington

Sen. John McCain is suspending his campaign to head to Washington in response to the economic issues surrounding the bailout, and I am a very relieved taxpayer. Because of all the people who could be in Washington right now, McCain needs to be there. For one thing, he’s anti-earmark and he actually tried to get something done before this mess happened. I’m suspicious enough about the current congress I want an anti-earmark politician on the scene, especially after the $24 million they gave the EPA for more education about science, something I thought our schools were already supposed to be doing. If times were good, I’d have less of a problem with that. But times aren’t and additional spending needs to come to zero. If it isn’t essential, spending should be embargoed. Sen. Barack Obama's economics are easy to understand.
