Oprah bio raises question of $7.8 million GM gave for ‘Favorite Things’

Oprah Winfrey made headlines around the world in September, 2004, when she opened the new season of her talk show with a ‘Favorite Things’ segment. That day, each member of her studio audience received a new Pontiac G6—276 cars were given for a total value of $7.8 million. However, considering General Motors' financial performance in subsequent years, the  giveaway raises a question.
