Anarchy of government

Commentary by Chris CarterUntold millions would perish under the tyranny of Soviet leader Josef Stalin

When we hear the term “anarchy,” it brings to mind a society with no laws or structure. In the hands of good people, anarchy can represent absolute freedom. One could argue that Americans would be far more prosperous if we were free of the heavy taxes and regulations that hamper our economy today.

But in the hands of the bad, anarchy represents chaos. There is no rule of law to deter criminals; no police force to protect the people or their property; no military to repel foreign invaders.

But that is only if we consider the citizens of a state. Expand the focus and consider anarchy of government.

Merriam-Webster defines anarchy as the “absence or denial of any authority or established order.” Ours is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. We the people are in fact the rightful government of the United States, and those we have elected are mere public servants chosen to handle the affairs of the state according to our will and within the constraints of our Constitution.

Considering the history of our federal government in recent years – particularly the behavior of this Congress and administration – we can see an escalating trend of disregard for the established order of our Constitution and an increasing denial of the people's authority over government.

UN head condemns film, tramples free speech in U.S. leadership vacuum

Photo of UN headquarters: The UN websiteSadly, at a time when there’s an opportunity to message the whole world about the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, U.S. leadership has failed.

After what most believe to be a planned attack on a U.S. Consulate in Libya and U.S. interests continue to be attacked around the world, President Barack Obama has basically apologized to people who killed Americans because an amateur filmmaker made fun of their faith.

An attack on a U.S. embassy or consulate comprises an act of war.

The head of the UN, Ban ki-Moon condemned the film,  trampled free speech and again proved to the world he sees it through the single prism of one faith—Islam.

One more reason to nullify ObamaCare: Most damage falls on small businesses

Obama is the first U.S. president to force Americans to buy something they may not need, want or be able to afford. (Photo: Obama at Saddleback, 2008; screen snip of video)From the moment I finished reading the healthcare bill Democrats came up with, I knew what they were up to.

The bill simply shifts the cost of those who have no insurance onto those of us who do. To pay for it, 20 new taxes are included.

Worse, the bill imposes a “tax” on those who don’t buy health insurance. That fine will fall on those who earn a little too much to get the government bailout but not enough to be able to comfortably afford the premiums.

Someone should stage a public reading of the U.S. tax code

“There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him.”—Robert A. Heinlein

The instruction package online at IRS for form 1040 runs 100 pages. (Screen snip from IRS website)Every April, it’s the same. I spend hours gathering information, trying to interpret often obscure instructions on the IRS website. Before we can even file our return, I have to make sure all the pieces and documentation are there. Our return is complicated by my small (incredibly struggling) business and by the occasional sale of small amounts of stock.

I’ll never forget the year we sold some stock to cover our older daughter’s wedding. Taxed already on the company’s end, the amount we netted was taxed again.

Really, America, is this the best we can do?
