Obama energy firewall: Atlantic, Pacific and parts of Arctic off-limits for US producers

This photograph from the Library of Congress Digital Collection is dated 1944; it was produced by the Office of War Information.. The caption said, “America's petroleum industries pour out fuel and lubricants for the United Nations.” At that point in America’s history, the enviro-lobby did not have absolute control over America’s natural resources. The Independent Petroleum Association of America is not happy with President Barack Obama’s Proposed 5-year Program for Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Natural Gas leasing for 2012-2017.

IPAA sent a letter to the 5-year Program Manager at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.

Based on the letter, it’s evident the Obama Administration still has offshore drilling on de facto lockdown. IPAA said the administration “should not leave the entire Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and portions of the Arctic off-limits to new oil and gas production and job creation.”

Obama even said no to one US state eager to put people back to work.

Harvey Gulf CEO: Obama ‘shut it down’ in a day

Harvey Gulf CEO Shane Guidry told Neil Cavuto Obama shut down the Gulf oil industry "in a day." The video of Guidry's exchange with Cavuto is posted at Fox News. [Screen snip of video]

Harvey Gulf CEO Shane Guidry appeared on Neil Cavuto (Fox News) on Tuesday, responding to news about the US Export-Import Bank loan to Brazil’s state-controlled oil company for drilling offshore. Guidry heads up the company that engages in offshore towing. The HG corporate website said the company’s focus is “towing large jack-up and semi-submersible rigs in the deepwater and ultra-deepwater of the Gulf of Mexico.”

In calm, measured responses, Guidry talked about President Barack Obama’s restrictions that have led to a near-total shutdown of American drilling in the Gulf.

ATP wants answers from Obama on drill permit

Despite the federal government’s claim of lifting the drilling moratorium in mid-October, ATP Oil and Gas Corp. is still waiting on a permit to drill in the Gulf of Mexico. ATP has become so frustrated, the company took out a quarter page ad in The Wall Street Journal. The ad content run in section A on page 11 (Dec. 27, 2010) comprised a letter to President Barack Obama. The letter contained a reference that was a simple request: “Please issue a permit so we can go back to work.”

The Houston Chronicle sheds more light on what’s at stake—a cost of $330,000 a day to keep workers on site and avoid layoffs.
