Rubio gains major endorsement, holds steady in Rasmussen poll

During a conference call with bloggers on Friday, presumed GOP nominee in Florida for the US Senate race Marco Rubio announced a major endorsement that will be made on Friday. Bill Miller, senior vice president of the US Chamber of Commerce, said Rubio had “earned” the organization’s endorsement because of his “strong component of free enterprise ratings.” Miller said Rubio had “voted the votes important to people in the state of Florida.”

In Palmetto State politics, all things are possible—even Alvin Greene

By Kay B. Day

With interest I’ve watched state and local elections in South Carolina because I lived there for many years and still have family and friends there. Until we moved to Florida, I was often reminded my father’s family had been a fixture in The Palmetto State since the early 1700s. And I was also often reminded that politics in my home state, a state I will always cherish, often border on the surreal.

I still remember Tuesday nights—I THINK it was on Tuesdays—when I’d head to the Capitol Café  on Main Street with fellow students from the University of South Carolina. We’d usually go there to talk poetry and eat a greasy hamburger. And many legislators did the same thing except most of them had also enjoyed a few stiff drinks or beers and none of them were talking poetry.

Crist in limelight on oil spill, backs Obama ban on drilling

Day

Many who voted to elect Charlie Crist (I) as governor might recognize him these days only because of his trademark tan.

Seizing the opportunity behind the oil crisis, Crist has been up front and center in media, responding to Democrat President Barack Obama’s handling of the oil rig crisis. It didn’t take long for the governor who is running for a US Senate seat to get down to brass tacks on alternative energy.

Crist told Face the Nation [CBS] on Sunday the oil spill is “the greatest wakeup call ever.”

And evoking memories of his support of the Stimulus Bill, Crist said he supports the six month ban on offshore drilling Obama has put in place.

Florida GOP women unleash ‘fury’ on Crist

By Kay B. Day

Cindy Graves, President of the Florida Federation of Republican Women, will now lead her organization to support former Speaker of the Florida House Marco Rubio's effort to unseat Gov. Charlie Crist's appointee in the US Senate George LeMieux. In Florida thousands of women belong to local Republican clubs that make up the state organization The Florida Federation of Republican Women. FFRW is led by President Cindy Graves. Meet her once and you will not forget her. For that matter visit any of these clubs and you’ll find a highly informed group of motivated Republicans willing to work hard for their candidates. Graves is informed, dedicated and an organizer extraordinaire. At the moment she is also highly steamed at Gov. Charlie Crist who until Thursday was a Republican.

After Crist jumped ship to run as an independent for the US Senate seat currently occupied by his ally and appointee Sen. George LeMieux (R-Fla.), Graves unloaded him on with an official statement that might turn Crist’s famous smile upside down.

The statement began with, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”

Milton resident places faith in Rubio for GOP nominee for US Senate

Letter to the Editor/The US Report

Two recent [newspaper] editorials concerning Marco Rubio, candidate for the U. S. Senate, have been very disturbing.  First the haircut—some say $130.00 and others say $133.00.  They can’t even agree on the amount.

Actually the haircut cost Mr. Rubio $20.00.

During the period of the leaked documents, Mr. Rubio had an American Express card in his own name and social security number, and he paid his personal expenses of $16,000.00  himself. The other expenses that the Republican Party of Florida paid were for his travels while helping the party raise money and helping other Republican candidates.

I cannot believe Mr. O’Brien [in a newspaper editorial] would suggest, even in jest, voting for Crist because he needs a job and we need a laugh.  Some idiot might believe he was serious.
