DeMint amendment would’ve averted education waivers

First the US Dept. of Health and Education handed out waivers to organizations and corporations that realized the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was a legislative nightmare. That happens when your congressman doesn’t read the bill he signs.

Now the US Dept. of Education is handing out waivers. Those waivers wouldn’t be necessary had Democrats agreed to an amendment offered by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC).

‘Medi-Scare’ works for Democrats who also targeted Medicare

Updated on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 11:58AM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

Bloggers and readers are engaged in a shouting match at present over Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan’s ‘Path to Prosperity’ and Democrats’ refusal to pass a budget. “Medi-Scare” tactics—denigrating Ryan’s plan for the benefit of Democrats’ political gain—have even been blamed for the GOP loss in a special congressional election in New York. Remember how excited Rep. Nancy Pelosi was after Democrats snuck the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act through the back door? Pelosi made a rambling speech that sounded like something you’d hear at a PTA fundraiser. There’s a priceless moment when amid a sprinkle of giggles,  she quotes a favorite maxim of the late iconic liberal spender Tip O’Neill—“All politics is local.”

Pelosi’s speech is now history, but she surely affirmed O’Neill’s saying because nearly 20 percent of new ObamaCare waivers are chic businesses located in Pelosi’s home district. The Daily Caller did the math: “Of the 204 new Obamacare waivers President Barack Obama’s administration approved in April, 38 are for fancy eateries, hip nightclubs and decadent hotels in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s Northern California district.”

Why don’t we just call out PPACA for what it is—a scandal?

Waivers, grandfathered plans, Medicare cuts and lawsuits plague PPACA

Welfare state proponents like Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) are the most enthusiastic cheerleaders for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, popularly called ObamaCare. But the new law is mired in chaos and a conservative think tank said the impact on one Medicare plan will actually harm large numbers of minorities.

Non-compliance on law protecting military vote could affect key races

In Wisconsin and Colorado, two key races could be impacted by the states’ failure to meet a Sept. 18 mailing date for general election ballots to troops stationed overseas. Fox News points to races where incumbents like Sen. Russ Feingold (Wisc.) and Michael Bennet (Colo.) are facing serious challengers. Both men are Democrats.

Fox said races could be determined by military ballots not only in those states but also in Washington.
