'Nancy State' Climate bill vastly expands bureaucracy, runs on Copenhagen time

Rush Limbaugh predicted the 'Nancy State' when he said Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) would bring San Francisco values to Washington. California is flat broke, by the way.[Photo from rushlimbaugh.com.]Neoliberal Democrats are in a hurry to accommodate President Barack Obama who wants the deal done before climate talks are held in Copenhagen in December. The president called “Senator Government” by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) during the campaign will, according to one of many newspapers enamored of the Dem agenda, once again vastly expand government power and expend taxpayer money. The militaristic sounding Clean Energy Deployment Administration will see to financing and other matters as carbon credit trading gets down and dirty. Democrats do love their economic bubbles—dot coms, mortgage lending and the like.

The bill spans approximately 1,000 pages. The Wall Street Journal reported Democrats hired a speed reader who is not an elected official. At least someone in Washington read the bill. We taxpayers paid for that too.

Climate change impact on Americans rests with Waxman, a federal speed reader and elitists gathering in Copenhagen

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), hailing from a state that is flat broke, wants a 946-page climate bill passed faster than his fellow Democrats can read it.If the climate change (formerly known as global warming, formerly known as global cooling) enthusiasts have their way, Americans will soon absorb the heavy aftershock of science heavily compressed to fit political consensus. By aftershock I mean the transfer of our dollars to the pockets of others around the globe. By political consensus I mean those who ascribe to the theology preached by Al Gore. Thus it is with scorn that I mention today’s story in The Wall Street Journal, alerting taxpayers to the fact we are now paying a speed reader to absorb the 946-page bill that will impact every single facet of our lives. Hopefully the federal reader is able to comprehend on a level equivalent to his speed.

Coincidentally, is the federal speed reader a factor in consideration of a taxpayer class action lawsuit?

From the moment you open your eyes in the morning to the moment you close them at night, your life will be affected by President Barack Obama and the Democratic Congress’ policies on energy—a Puritan approach to the management of air. This is third in a line of Democratic-induced bubbles, preceded by the dot.com boom and bust and the mortgage/lending boom and bust. There is no glory in a fractured bubble, but the halleluiahs as the bubble expands are a sight to behold.

Waxman’s climate policy good for lobbyists, bad for US consumers

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) is pushing his climate change agenda with assistance from industry titans An article at CNN (Apr. 22) said, "Plants absorbed carbon dioxide more efficiently under polluted skies than they would have done in a cleaner atmosphere, according to new findings published this week in Nature magazine." My roses seem to be getting plenty of whatever they need, producing a number of record blooms this spring. like Duke Energy Corp. and Gorian alarmist proponents. Remember the good old days when everything was the Republicans’ fault? The Washington Times offers a bit of nostalgia: “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman, both of California, were among the Democrats -- then in the minority -- who slammed Vice President Dick Cheney for holding closed-door meetings to draft energy policy early in the Bush administration.” But the newspaper explains Waxman allowed select lobbyists to help craft energy legislation. The GOP’s yesteryear is the Dems’ today.

On April 24, the GOP had lined up a well-known expert on climate change; Waxman wouldn’t let him testify during the hearings. And that led to a telling exchange, little reported by pomp media, between former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and Waxman, wherein Waxman said the government would have to use “threats” to get Americans in line on climate change policy.

Gingrich gives Waxman a civics lesson during energy hearing

The House Energy and Commerce committee is holding hearings, doing the politics of climate change. Legislation that follows will impact the lifestyle and income of every American—and of many in other countries. During Friday’s hearing, there was an exchange between Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) who chairs Energy and Commerce and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) wherein the speaker taught Waxman a few things, starting with a civics lesson. After Gingrich presented research contrary to Waxman’s views, Waxman took Gingrich to task but then he went one further. Waxman insulted Gingrich and then he took a strongman approach towards tax and energy increases for Americans. 'Cap and Trade' means taxes. Tell your friends. Waxman knows it.

"Mr. Gingrich, I’m sure glad you’re not in charge of foreign policy! Do you think the only way to incentivize a country is by offering them more and more carrots? You gotta have some threat sometimes—you have to say to incentivize you, we’re going to give you some assistance, but there are going to be consequences."

Gingrich got a dead serious look on his face. And then he responded with a civics lesson and maybe a lesson in honor as well.

"Mr. Chairman, I don’t think of American citizens the way I think of foreign dictators, and I don’t think this Congress should punish the American people. I think this Congress has every right to reward the American people, but I don’t think Lincoln’s government of the people, by the people and for the people should be turned into a government punishing the people, and I think that’s a major difference."

Gingrich then segued into his final remarks, noting the bill in its current form is “incomplete.” For one thing there was no inclusion of nuclear power.

The former speaker then said he’d be glad to help and testify again if need be.

And he concluded by saying, “But I’m always delighted to be here with the chairman.”

Politics just doesn’t get much better than this, and every now and then we see a moment of true leadership. Waxman had to admire Gingrich for that, and if he didn’t, that’s just one more Waxman shortcoming in a very long line.
