Americans should demand redress for climate legislation passed without being read

“Don’t you think the American people expect us to understand what’s in this bill before we vote on it?”

House Republican leader John Boehner (R-Oh.) addressed that question to Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) after Waxman tried to squelch Boehner’s reading select passages from the “Cap and Tax” bill as the GOP accurately calls HR 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act/2009 [also Waxman-Markey or Climate Change]. Waxman obviously doesn’t favor transparency for legislation sponsored by his party. [Story continues below video.]

First Waxman asked, “Is there any outside limit to the amount of time a leader might take?” Then, more to the point, Waxman asked, “Is this an attempt to get some people to leave before a close vote?”

Higher taxes and energy costs; Clean Energy and Security Act passed

The House of Representatives passed HR2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act, popularly called Waxman-Markey or Cap and Trade. The vote was close. The vote was recorded at 7:17 p.m. on Friday.

Red State got it exactly right with a headline, ‘The Quisling Republicans.’ Eight GOPers voted for a bill that will penalize the American people by taxing them and raising costs on the gas we all exhale every time we breathe. The benefits to the planet will be minimal. The federal government will reap tax revenue and speculators will reap record profits. One day everyone will figure out they’re trading absolutely nothing for money and the bottom will once again rise to the top.

The US House of Representatives abandoned the welfare of the nation by passing a bill most of them did not even read. Once again I question the legality of legislation many who voted for it did not read. This action is an arrogant insult to the American people.

Congress set to keep Obama's promise electricity will skyrocket

Updated on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:36AM by Registered CommenterKay B. Day, Editor

The Cap and Trade bill, HR 2454, also known as Waxman-Markey, should go down in history if the bill is passed,  as the greatest looting of the US consumer in history. I still wonder how Americans could elect a president who tells them in advance, "Under my plan...electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."

Whatever your preference in politics, Cap and Trade is no one's friend. It is not an environmentally sound plan. It manipulates prices inherently, with areas using coal paying far more in energy costs. Businesses will of course simply pass the cost onto consumers, and even President Barack Obama can't stop that unless he goes totally totalitarian and acquires the entire US economy. The Dems of course are close to doing that  now. [Continues below video.]
