The President’s address and the GOP response: sharp contrast

President Barack Obama took to the podium last night, delivering his customary excellent oratory to his Democratic admirers and Republican wait-and-seers in Congress. Obama’s speech, if he really means what he said, will mean 4 more years of failed policy. His Congress will indebt the nation on a level never seen before. His negative comments about Wall Street had a negative impact on the market Wednesday morning. Everybody hates Wall Street when times are tough. But when times are good and those 401k and pension programs rise, no one hands out attaboys. Wall Street greed is your own greed whether you admit it or not. Furthermore, the Dems are setting up an ambush on the upper middle class.

Sating Hill Street greed by robbing the upper middle class
The president is a tried and true far left politician. He also plans to increase the burden for the roughly 2 percent of taxpayers who make more than $250,000 a year and thereby already pay a larger share of taxes because most deductions are phased out at that level. In one breath Obama noted small businesses are “hanging by a thread.” In another he pledged the tax increase that will hit small businesses harder. The uber rich find ways to dodge taxes. Just ask USB. Or for that matter, ask Tim Geithner, Charles Rangel, or Tom Daschle. That’s why they don’t mind raising taxes for the rest of us.

You can bet your bottom line you’ll pay more in taxes once the Bush tax “cuts” expire. If you’re married, prepare for the marriage penalty. Liberal Democrats apparently do not approve of traditional families. Dems want the government to take over healthcare, thereby earning the right to govern your individual body. Nothing new there.

As soon as Obama mentioned America invented the car, I questioned the statement during our Cover It Live event. If a Republican candidate had made a statement like that the video clips would be endlessly looped 24/7 and comics like Keith Olbermann would have commentary fodder for days to come.

Obama told us nothing new. The website Vice President Joe Biden is supposed to use as a transparency device is just more of the same. Pie charts with phrases like $81 billion going to the “most vulnerable.” There is no viable content on the site.

Not a single word was said about immigration despite the fact we have Mexican governors moving their families to Texas because of the drug cartel war. If you don’t admit there’s a war there, go splash some water on your face and wake up.

That said, Obama is an astute, polished spokesperson for the Harry Reid-Nancy Pelosi cabal that is burning American money and urging us ever closer to full socialism.

The GOP Response
Gov. Bobby Jindal followed with a statement about the GOP, and the libs at MSNBC were saying, “Oh, my God,” before Jindal even opened his mouth. Jindal’s story is the real American story—immigrants come to the U.S., become part of the culture, learn the language and work hard. That’s the story of my ancestors and probably most of yours. Jindal pointed out how the American spirit has triumphed over adversity time and time again.

His delivery fell short. Whoever prepared him for speaking over-coached him. Jindal is a down-to-earth sort of guy whose intellect is superior to 99 percent of those in Washington today. But he is personable. If I’d been coaching him I’d have said, “Just be yourself.” Because that is the ticket.

We already have a celeb president and whoever faces Obama in 2012 should not attempt to replicate his style. In addition, the GOP should attempt to find some speech writers who are creatives. There is a serious absence of creatives in the GOP party today. A great speech isn’t made from political platforms and homily. It is made from poetry and if a speech writer doesn’t understand that he or she will come up short every time. Just ask the Dems. They’ve had the speechwriting market cornered for a long time.

Whatever the delivery, Jindal is one of the most sincere politicians in the land. Love for his country is evident in his mannerisms and his statements. I’ve placed a video of his inauguration below so you can see the real Bobby Jindal.

Party philosophies on hope
The most important point Jindal made is in the contrast between the Democratic Party and the new Republican Party. I say “new” because it is. Changes are afoot and they are good changes. The GOP is beginning to realize we cannot win elections by acting like Democrats.

Jindal described the Democratic Party as placing hope in government. The new Republican Party places its hope in the American people.

Of all the rhetoric I witnessed last night, Jindal’s comparison is the most solid truth to emerge. Obama’s rhetoric unfortunately does not correlate to his party’s actions. The GOP I think has learned its lesson on that front.
