Why Palin should head to the activist-pundit chair

Photo of Alaska governor Sarah Palin from Alaska governor website.Maybe I’m the only person in America who wasn’t surprised by Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s resignation. Anyone who has watched media brutalize the Palin family’s reputation should understand. Feeding the frenzy are frivolous accusations from Alaska politicos. The same thing happened to Hillary Clinton on her way to becoming the US Secretary of State. And to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice too. Only the geography was different.

I’ve often said the oldest bias in the world is bias against the female. It’s applied selectively in the States—female politicians are good targets—but it’s rampant abroad. Consider the number of countries around the world where a woman cannot serve as a head of state because of religious barriers or social barriers. I’ve often wondered if a woman might be better at running the UN, thereby running Africa, because all the men have failed. We call it ‘Mother Africa’ but there’s always a daddy on the throne. Why has there not been a female president in Russia, China or the US?

Because any woman who aspired to it has been dealt with and dealt with in a decidedly different manner than the males. I say that without malice. We women are where we are because we must want to be here. I don’t hear any feminists thundering about young women getting stoned to death in Middle Eastern countries. Honor killings are apparently accepted as a cultural shortcoming. Doesn’t the hypocrisy want to make you pull your hair out sometimes?

Right now if you use Google to search for ‘Sarah Palin’ blog posts, results for the entire first page comprise neoliberal tabloids of varying caliber. You have to go to the second page of results to get an empathetic take at The Tygrrrr Express.

Palin talked about a “higher calling,” but right now I figure the world is her oyster. Palin, in my opinion, should switch her specialty. She doesn’t do well with the counter-productive mindset currently prevailing in politics. Media will never forgive her, in my opinion, for her position on abortion. Faux feminists claim to hate her because she’s stupid and her daughter got pregnant out of wedlock, all because of teaching abstinence. Anyone who buys into the abstinence-made-me-do-it school of thought has never experienced sex ed in a public school. Both our daughters learned how to put a condom on in health class. That made for interesting chats at the dinner table.

Media and elitists hate Palin because she is outside the D.C. world of manners, money and runaway federal quid pro quo.

If Palin really wants to make a difference in her country, not to mention getting a few return jabs in at those who’ve assailed her, she should head straight for media and activism. She’s gorgeous, she’s accomplished and she’s a whole lot brighter than metro media like to believe. Palin has a platform, the entity most writers, speakers, and creatives seek. Her abilities exceed the bureaucracy of government and the conservative movement certainly can use another star. People will come out to see her.

I don’t agree with Palin on every issue, but I believe much of the negative press came simply because she’s a woman, and worse, she’s a conservative. If she decides to take a seat in the pundit chair and strike out for the activist podium, she’ll be a far more formidable presence than she can be at present in public office. I’d recommend she start a magazine as well. We need more of those too.

Who knows? Maybe if she writes a book detailing dream talks with her mom or dad she could be the next president. After all, she’s got gobs of experience organizing her community.
